SOY SAUCE VINEGAR DIPPING SAUCE

The Filipino dipping sauce is a flavor explosion which is tangy, salty and spicy. Make this soy and vinegar-based sauce at home. With only 6 ingredients and 5 minutes to put together, it makes the ideal sauce for anyone with little time.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 c soy sauce
  • 1/2 c vinegar
  • 1 tsp garlic minced
  • 1 tsp onion minced
  • pinch pepper ground
  • 1 chilli

Instructions
 

  • In a clean jar or bowl, pour the soy sauce and vinegar.
  • Add the aromatics and spices.
  • If using a jar, put the lid on and shake to combine the ingredients. If using a bowl, stir vigorously.
  • Use straight away or let sit for 10 minutes before use to let the aromatics infuse.

Notes

Notes:
  1. Soy sauce - any soy sauce that is available on hand but if you want to try an authentic Filipino dipping sauce try Filipino soy sauce, check for saltiness as you go along
  2. Vinegar - cane vinegar is recommended but other kinds of vinegar like cider, white wine or rice vinegar are totally fine
  3. Garlic - peeled and sliced or crushed with the skin on, this is optional but if you are feeling fancy
  4. Onion - sliced or chopped, use shallots, brown or yellow onion
  5. Pepper - both whole and ground pepper or any to add heat
  6. Chilli - Thai chillies were used for this recipe but any chilli will work and add as much or as little as you want or none at all
