TERIYAKI TURKEY MEATBALLS

Last updated on September 5th, 2024 at 09:55 am

These teriyaki turkey meatballs are soft and tender, packed with flavour and ready in 30 minutes. They are perfect with steamed rice, mashed potatoes and noodles.

These teriyaki meatballs are kid and adult-approved perfect for a weeknight meal. With a homemade teriyaki sauce and no marinating involve they are surprisingly quick and easy but full of flavour meatballs.

Anything with teriyaki sauce is popular in our household as it is flavour-packed and reminds us of the flavours of Asia. We do not need to travel far to have a meal that is filling, quick and easy to make especially when pressed on time.

My daughter loves these meatballs after school. After picking her up from school, she gets a snack in a lunchbox with rice or pasta with protein and vegetables in it. Her last big meal before pick-ups would be lunch, so she would understandably be hungry by that time. She eats a big snack, that’s what we call it after school so that she has enough energy to go to sports training afterwards.

My husband would also have a plate of these meatballs when I make a batch for our daughter. This is a big plus because he normally just picks the vegetables and prefer fish over meat. No other saucepans to add to my washing.

Ingredients for Teriyaki Turkey Meatballs

Meatballs

Ground turkey – feel free to use other ground meat such as chicken, beef or pork

Ground black pepper – use ground white pepper to for some heat

Oyster Sauce – I use oyster sauce instead of salt or soy sauce to add more flavour to the meat

Teriyaki sauce

Homemade teriyaki sauce – for the sauce I use this homemade teriyaki sauce using 3 basic pantry ingredients. Combine equal parts soy sauce, sake and sugar.

Nuetral cooking oil – for frying

How to make teriyaki meatballs

1. Place all meatballs ingredients in a bowl. Mix the meatball ingredients. Scoop a tablespoon of the meatball mixture and form into balls.

2. In a small bowl, using a whisk, combine equal parts of soy sauce, sake and sugar. Set aside.

3. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add all the meatballs and brown the meatballs all over. This will take around 5 minutes which means they will be browned outside and raw in the inside.

4. Turn the heat down. take the meatballs out of the pan. Remove excess oil if any.

5. Place the meatballs back in the pan and pour the sauce over them.

6. Bring to a simmer and then cook for 2 to 3 minutes, flip the meatballs over to coat all sides, and cook until the sauce turns glossy and thickens.

7. Serve with rice, potatoes or noodles, steamed vegetables and soup.
