A super easy-to-make, basic and savoury dumpling sauce to serve with dumplings. Ready in under 5 minutes using only three ingredients.
Homemade dumpling sauce is incomparable.
It makes or breaks every dumpling experience.
Sometimes all you need for a Chinese, Korean or Japanese dumpling is a dash of black vinegar, but most of the time, taking an extra minute to make the sauce makes a big difference in the dish’s flavor.
Some days, especially during the holidays my daughter and I make dumplings together.
It is a time for us to bond while we make something to eat together. It is a win-win and always fun.
My daughter prefers a soy sauce-black vinegar dip, my husband goes for the black vinegar only sauce whilst for me, I go all out with the addition of chilli oil.
In this post, I will share my go-to, quick and easy dumpling sauce recipe that only uses a handful of ingredients.
You may not have the time to make dumplings from scratch or you have stored them in the freezer.
Serve those dumplings, store-bought or not with this dumpling sauce and you will be sure to have a delicious meal.

Ingredients
This basic dipping sauce only calls for 3 ingredients that are easy to find in shops if you do not already have them at home. Make a big batch and it will see you through a long time.
Soy sauce – light or regular soy sauce gives the salty and savory factor
Chinkiang vinegar – also known as black vinegar imparts the fruity and tangy flavor
Chilli oil – homemade chilli oil or store-bought work, the source of spice. Why not try this recipe for homemade chilli oil?
Optional Ingredients:
Make the sauce with a hint of sweetness by adding sugar.
Add freshly chopped garlic for a spicy, garlicky punch.
Add sesame oil and sesame seeds for nutty flavor.
How to make an easy dumpling sauce?
The best thing about this homemade dumpling sauce is how easy it is to whip up. Measure all the ingredients, mix them and serve.
Cook some dumplings. While waiting for the dumplings, whether frying, steaming or boiling them, make the sauce.
To make the dumpling sauce pour the soy sauce, black vinegar and chilli oil into a bowl. Stir to combine. Serve immediately or store in the refrigerator for later use.
What to serve with dumpling sauce?
As the title suggests, this sauce goes well with dumplings however, it is also a great addition to noodles, soups, rice dishes and stir-fries. Drizzle over them or serve as dipping sauce.
Storage
This homemade sauce keeps well in the refrigerator. Pour into a container, cover and refrigerate for 2 to 3 weeks.

- 1 spoon
- 1 bowl
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 1/2 tbsp Chinkiang vinegar
- 2 tsp chilli oil
